An efficient team performance guided Croydon to a 5-1 victory at Old Midwhitgiftian in Surrey Open Hockey League Division Two at the weekend.

Croydon played quick, flowing hockey from the whistle but chance after chance was wasted by some profligate finishing.

Eventually the deadlock was broken when the ball was put away by Stols after some clever build up play from Russell.

Mids responded well and a smart save from Graeme Tunbridge prevented them drawing level. Hoare and Gunn were solid at the back allowing Coomer to step into midfield where he began to dictate the game.

As Mids tired, Croydon punished them, Stols and Russell added to the score and Coomer converted a penalty stroke to make it four.

As the game drew to a close Stols showed his class by rounding the keeper for his hat-trick and Croydon's fifth.

Mids converted a penalty corner late on but it was too little, too late, and Croydon sit second in the table, looking to add to their points tally in next week's fixture against Spencer.
