Gary Marks overcame a two-shot lead to triumph at the Par 3 Championships Order of Merit event at Burgess Hill in West Sussex.

Marks, from World of Golf in New Malden, shot a six under par 48 to take the lead after the first 18 holes of the day and, despite managing only a 55 in the afternoon, it was enough to seal victory with a 10-under-par 152.

Chris Roake (Buckinghamshire) and Steven Cowle (Hoebridge Golf Centre) were tied for second after two impressive rounds at the par 54 nine-hole course.

But a final round 56 from overnight leader James Ablett (Lee-on-Solent) meant he was forced to settle for joint fourth alongside Paul Page (Kings Hill) and Alan Lovelace (Merrist Wood), who shot respective closing rounds of 52 and 51.

There was a three-way tie for seventh after Neil Reilly (Surbiton), Gavin Lingard (Chelsfield Lakes) and Ian Campbell (Farringdon) all finished with a six-under-par 156.

Marks, who confessed he has struggled for form of late, admitted it was a relief to return to winning ways.

He said: "Having seen my game collapse it's a big reassurance I have been able to fix it again. It means a lot to me.

"I have had a really bad season, part of it was injury and part of it was my form. I have had signs that it was coming back.

"I made a couple of cuts in the Challenger Tour events and then this has come at the end of it.

"I think the most important thing from my perspective is that I can still hit the ball well."
