Bradley Skeete warmed up for his British welterweight title defence date with Shayne "The Pain" Singleton by posting an impressive victory at Cardiff Ice Arena on Saturday.
The 28-year-old from Battersea used his greater height and reach advantage to wear down and eventually end Frenchman Alexandre Lepelley challenge in seven rounds.
The referee halted the bout after "Super" Skeete, who was defending his WBO European mantle, unleased a series of lethal headshots on his 34-year-old Normandy-based opponent.
“Without being too disrespectful I was gunning that fight to do a good job on him,” said Skeete, the former Earlsfield ANC representative.
“I felt comfortable in there from the opening bell. I was enjoying it, it was like a spar to be honest.
“I had to switch on and get my professional head on and realised it was a job I was doing tonight.
!Once I switched on and put the punches together it was all over.”
Skeete, who is promoted by Frank Warren, reckons he now has the ability to finish off his opponents effectively.
And the south Londoner, who now has 24 wins in 25 outings, proved his point to his army of critics on Saturday.
“I got criticised a lot in my early fights that I didn’t have the killer instinct and I didn’t in go for the kill,” Skeete added.
“My style is not all crash bang wallop, but I think I’m growing into it now and I can finish a fight.
"This proves I’ve got the confidence of being a champion and it’s just onwards and upwards now.”
Skeete took the British title off Birmingham’s Sam Eggington in March and now has a mandatory defence against Lancashire based Singleton, 26, who boasts a near-identical fight record to the south Londoner.
