Duncan Tappy continued his return to the top with two wins in the Formula Renault Championship third and fourth rounds at Rockingham on Sunday to make it three in a row, writes Philippa Neilson.

Starting from second on the grid in the first race, the 22-year-old from West Ewell, was involved in a race-long battle with Fortec team-mate Dean Smith.

Tappy finally took the lead with five of the 16 laps to go when Smith went wide on the second-turn hairpin.

Starting on pole for race two, Tappy raced away from the field from the start, increasing his lead with every lap, and finished seven seconds clear of his nearest challenger.

Fortec drivers took all three podium positions.

Tappy said: "I was right behind Dean in the first race.

"I was given a tow and got alongside, but then he squeezed me.

"We both made slips and he made the big one when he out-braked himself, allowing me to get by.

"I wasn't entirely happy with the car after race one, so the team made changes. It was great for the second race."
