Sutton & Epsom skipper James Clark is set to risk surgery in a bid for revenge in pursuit of a glorious double this weekend.

Clark's team overcame stiff resistance from Cobham in their 15-0 Surrey Cup semi-final triumph on Saturday to set-up a cup final clash with old rivals Richmond.

Sutton have never beaten the London Division One side, losing back-to-back showpiece appearances against them in 2002 and 2003 with Clark in their ranks.

The strong-running number eight, skipper when Sutton were relegated two seasons ago, has recovered from a dislocated shoulder and came off the bench for a 10-minute cameo at the weekend.

And he is determined to finish the season in style with some more silverware to go with the London Division Two South title they secured with three league games remaining.

"The doctors told me that, if I do my shoulder again it will need operating on, but I don't want to miss this," he said.

"We've never beaten them and to do so would be a great way to finish and give us a good yardstick to measure our chances with for next season.

"They haven't been doing that well this season, so we have a chance and hopefully we can gain some revenge.

"The league has been the priority and this would be icing on the cake."

Sutton head coach Martin Knights was part of the Richmond coaching team that won the cup at Imber Court in 2003, and the same venue will play host to the much-anticipated clash on Sunday (4pm).

Clark's men will be without injured props Tom Lindsay and Graham Hill, but will be boosted by the fact that fly-half Sam Frost - who, along with Austin Sheppard scored Sutton's tries on Saturday - got through 80 minutes without a recurrence of his hamstring injury.
