Richmond Gymnastics Association’s senior women’s trio believe they can return from the European Games with a medal.
Team GB’s Jennifer Bailey, Josie Russell and Cicely Irwin have qualified for Friday's acrobatic gynmnastics all-around final in Baku and are also through to Sunday’s dynamic and balance finals.
The trio, currently fourth in the standings, finished third and fourth in the individual disciplines on Wednesday and Russell reckons they are well placed to claim a top three finish in at least one of their final appearances.
“We’re really pleased with our performances, but we also know that there’s room for improvement,” she said.
“On our dynamic routine we were .03 behind the people in third and we ended up in fourth, so we know that if we can improve some of our execution in that routine, which we definitely can, then we have the potential to pull up to third.
“Qualifying was about doing clean routines and securing our spot in the finals, but because [our two scores] count towards the all-around final it wasn’t like it didn't count. We’ve put ourselves in a good position.”
