Cheam Ladies hockey team halted their tumble down the Surrey Premier League with a 3-1 derby win over Epsom to ensure they are safe from relegation.

They took the lead against the run of play when winger Sylvana Fellowes found space to score inside the left post.

Epsom fought back to gain a deserved equaliser, but Cheam brought on Lara Amato, who terrorised the Epsom defence.

She scored a brilliant individual goal, then won a penalty corner from which Emma Elsom scored.

The women's seconds moved into fourth place in Surrey Division Three with a 4-1 win over Reigate Priory. Nicki Osborne (two), Clio O'Sullivan and Gill McDonnell got the goals. The thirds drew 0-0 with Tulse Hill & Dulwich.

Cheam men's seconds finish runners-up in Surrey Open Division Six after beating Merton 2-0, thanks to strikes from Derry Brophy and Matt Hall.

The thirds were crowned Open Division Eight champions after beating second-placed Sandersted 2-1 in their final game. Matt Mabin and Richard Lucas got the goals.
