Former Surrey and England cricketer Adam Hollioake is preparing to travel 10,747 miles from his home in Perth, Australia, in his latest quest to provide a lasting legacy to brother Ben, writes Claire Skinner.

Adam is planning to run the Flora London Marathon on April 21 to raise money for the CHASE Ben Holliaoke Fund.

Ben had established himself as one of the most exciting cricketers in the country, when his life was cut short by a crash crash in March 2002.

He was just 24 at the time of his death, cutting short a promising career that had already seen him play in two Tests and 20 one-day internationals.

The London event will be the first time Adam has competed in a marathon, but he will be joined by the CHASE Cricket Runners, who include his father John and former heavyweight boxer Scott Welch.

Each participant will run in cricket themed clothing, with some in full cricket whites with pads, gloves and bats supplied by Woodworm, sponsors of Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen.

Adam said: "The Flora London Marathon could prove to be an even greater challenge, with more blisters, than 'The Journey' in 2003 when we walked, cycled and rowed from Edinburgh to Morocco.

"However, with Ben in my thoughts and the support of the CHASE Cricket Runners, including my dad, I will complete it.

"Money raised will go towards creating a centre in south London, in Ben's memory, enabling expanded support for life-limited children."

As well as seeking support from friends and colleagues, sponsorship has also been forthcoming in other ways.

Surrey County Cricket Club has pledged that the Club will match any money donated privately by members of staff to support Adam's endeavour.

A fundraising party will be held at London Rowing Club, Putney Embankment, on Wed-nesday, April 18, with all beer donated by Michelob Ultra.
