Kingston Grammar School's J16 girls' coxed four have won the Schools' Head of the River.

They left the rest of the field trailing in their wake, beating second-placed Dame Alice Harper's School by a massive 16 seconds.

The school's head of rowing, Colin Greenaway, said: "This was a hard, gutsy row.

"The girls have a lot of talent, and it was great to see them really give it some down the course."

The J15 girls' coxed four also impressed, finishing second in their maiden event.

The Schools' Head of the River is one of the most prestigious events in the school racing calendar.

Meanwhile, two other KGS crews tasted success at the Kingston Head last Saturday.

The girls' first eight won the women's senior three event, while the boys claimed the junior coxed fours crown.

Greenaway said: "It is always special to do well at our home Head.

"These results bode well for an excellent season for the KGS Boat Club."
