The teamwork and support of the home pack helped Old Wimbledonians produce a storming second-half comeback, but the damage had been done in Saturday's 17-12 London Three South West home defeat by Tottonians, writes Kevin Donovan.

Starting with a strong wind disadvantage OWs drove well upfield but gave away a penalty which Totts put to touch. Their lineout was stolen by Eric Taber which started a hot lineout performance from OWs but whenever Totts won possession they spread the ball effectively and tested the defence hugely. After 20 minutes Totts changed tactic and their right-wing shot through a large midfield gap to register a try under the posts which gave an easy conversion.

Dave Robertson in OWs' centre almost broke clear on several occasions but was unable to detach himself from the desperate fingertip tackles. Following a penalty miss hitting the upright Totts winger sped down his wing and scored his second try through some touch tackling. This try was also converted and a penalty from in front immediately on the restart seemed to have put Totts well away. OWs pulled themselves together, however, and keeping much more possession, soon ran into the opposing 22. The forward strength began to tell more and a fine drive found stand-off Des Nangle in their midst to claim a nice try which skipper Matt Jones converted.

Jones then just missed a penalty, rebounding off the same upright as previously but with 10 minutes left Ed Heaver drove off another lineout, gaining strong support for another try, this one from prop Frankie de Souza. A difficult kick just failed but with the scores close OWs kept up pressure and only just failed to make the line with the last move of the match.
