England RU U16s put the finishing touches to their preparations for their games at Millfield Festival and a Four Nations Tournament in the Midlands this weekend.

The England and the England A squads are at Castlecroft, Wolverhampton for their final training camps, the A team rounding off their preparations on Sunday with a match against a Saracens Academy XV (noon).

They have already played The Midlands and Worcester Academy sides in their build-up to Millfield and the workout against the Saracens XV will conclude a busy programme of preparation.

England U16 A are first into international action at Millfield on Tuesday week (April 3) when they take on Canada (10am), their other matches being against Scotland on Thursday, April 5, at Tor RFC (7.30pm) and against France at Millfield on Saturday, April 7 (11am).

The England side go into their final weekend buoyed by a solid display and a 24-0 win last weekend against a Bath Academy U17 side.

"We were expecting a physical challenge, but Bath also showed a great desire to run the ball wide, which made for some entertaining rugby and gave our defensive formation a good work out." said team manager George Squires.

"We scored tries by Andrew Forsythe (QEGS Wakefield), James Gibson (Marlborough College), Reubin Haile (St Peter's High School) and Anders Mogensen (Royal Hospital School), with Jake Sharp (Sheredes School) converting two.

"As usual, Bath gave us a thorough examination and it was satisfying to score four tries and keep a clean sheet."

Chairman of selectors Lloyd Morgan was equally upbeat.

"The lads have trained hard and we were pleased with the way they performed against quite a strong Bath side," he said.

"I'm sure lead coach Gareth Rees will be optimistic about the way things have been going and our chances in the Four Nations Tournament.

"On the injury front, we have one or two issues that will be resolved this weekend. Hopefully the players in question will come through with treatment, but we'll only know when the weekend activities have been completed."

England open their Four Nations campaign at Dudley Kingswinford RFC on Thursday, April 5 (2.15), when they take on Wales.

They follow up that game with an Easter Sunday (April 8, 1pm) meeting with France at Stourbridge RFC and complete their programme by playing Italy at Castlecroft on Wednesday, April 11 (2.15) in what may well be the final schools international staged at the stadium.
