New Malden's James Young and Marissa North struck gold in the Surrey Championships on Sunday to help Kingston Royals Swimming Club top the individual gold medal table.

The pair racked up 26 podium finishes between them, 17 of them first places, as Royals swimmers won a total of 69 races in all age groups - more than any other club.

Young, 14, triumphed in 10 events and claimed silver in three others, while 11-year-old North took seven titles and six second-placed finishes.

Sixty competitors from the 400-strong club qualified for this year's championships, with 25 of them taking home medals and nine reaching July's national championships held in Sheffield.

Vincent De Raucourt, 12, James O'Hanlon, 12, Daniel Allpress, 11, and Sidney Howes, 12, qualified for the event for the first time.

They will be joined by Alys Thomas, 16, Matthew Breckon, 16, Sean Duffy, 23, Alfie Howes, 15, and defending national champion Young.
