Wimbledon Wildkats replaced Ashcombe Dorking at the top of the Surrey Volleyball League Ladies Division by beating them 25-17, 23-25, 25-20, 25-18 on Saturday.

The Wimbledon girls gained revenge for a 3-2 defeat at Ashcombe earlier in the season, even though Ashcombe were strengthened by England international Amy Weemes.

Wimbledon fought back well to win the last two sets after trailing 11-4 in the third and by six points in the fourth. Some great pick ups by Sonja van Dwyck and a five-point service run from Corrinne Abraham inspired the Wildkats, who moved top of the table for the first time this season with a one-point lead over Ashcombe.

To complete a great weekend Wimbledon Flames beat Egham 25-18, 25-17, 21-25, 25-12 on Sunday to top Surrey League Men's Division One, three points clear of Egham with a game in hand.

The Flames team of Steve Williams, Danny Croydon, Shy Bertilsson, James Burton, Martin Sinclair, Alberto Zoboli, Pete Hammond and debutant Andréa lived up to coach Carol Gordon's expectations.
