Three Hercules Wimbeldon youngsters helped Surrey boys U13s to win the south-east Sportshall finals at the Spectrum Centre, Guildford.

Jose Coasta, David Adrenrele and Ed Saywell will now represent the county in the national finals at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena on Sunday, April 22.

Costa, who celebrated his 13th birthday in January, won the standing long jump with his opening leap of 2.38m and showed impressive consistency to follow that with leaps of 2.30m, 2.28m and 2.26m.

Adenrele was third in the triple jump (6.69m) and seventh in the six-lap race, with Saywell (1.30m) fifth in the standing high jump.

Result: 1 Surrey 662, 2 Middlesex 654, 3 Sussex 634, 4 Kent 536.

Hercules 16-year-old Alex Bruce-Littlewood warmed up for Saturday's English Cross Country Championships in Sunderland by leading the field home at an inter-club match in Richmond Park last Saturday.

Bruce-Littlewood, one of the youngest runners in the field, clocked 21:36 to finish 18 seconds clear of Ranelagh's Paul Doyle in the 3.8-mile race.

The teenager, who races over 6km in Saturday's U17 race at Herrington Country Park, was well backed up by Justin Kelly (22:43) in third and Deon Coetzee (23:03) in fourth.

Other Hercules finishers: 11 Martin O'Halloran 25:59, 13 Terry Savage 26:49, 16 Alan Turner (28:35), 19 Mike Kortenray (29:16).

It was Coetzee's second race of the day, having finished fourth on his Wimbledon Common 5km time trial debut.

Supervet Hugh Brasher was the first over-40 finisher, posting a debut time of 18:33.

Hercules Wimbledon athletes gained two medals in the British Masters (Veterans) Indoor Championships at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre, Picketts Lock, on Sunday. Sprinter Mark Baker took silver in the over-45 60m (7.62), with double world masters medallist Geoff Walcott third in the over-50 60m final (7.75).

Walcott was also fourth in the 400m (57.20).
