Kingston Rowing club has organised a gruelling 78-mile challenge for its members, all in the name of charity, writes Josh Doherty.
The club is teaming up with Royal Star & Garter Homes, a charity formed in the aftermath of the First World War to house war veterans, to set members a mammoth task of rowing, cycling and running.
Competitor can race of distances from six miles to a maximum of 78 miles.
The club lost 38 members in both world wars, leading president Peter King to hail the appropriateness of the September 27 event on the centenary of the outbreak of hostilities in 1914.
He said: “This is no doubt going to be a fantastic day with fun, endeavour and companionship.
“Combined with remembering the young men that gave their lives for the freedoms that we enjoy today, it makes a special day for all.”
