Hercules Wimbledon AC's top 400m runner Dwayne Cowan has broken his own club record at an open meeting at Norman Park, Bromley, on Saturday.

Cowan, 28, stormed round in 47.28 seconds to improve on the club record of 47.6 he set at Kingsmeadow the previous Saturday, which itself erased the long-standing mark of international 400m hurdler Robin Woodland set in winning the Surrey title at Motspur Park in 1959.

Cowan was not the only top Hercules Wimbledon performance of the weekend.

Teenager Rechmiel Miller, who just missed out on a medal when he finished fourth in the Surrey championships in May, stormed to a bronze medal in the South of England U17 100m championships at Ashford on Saturday.

He clocked 11.41secs battling against a massive 3.5 metres per second headwind.

Earlier, Miller, who just missed out on a place in Surrey's team for the English Schools Championships in Birmingham after taking second place in the Surrey Schools Championships at Kingsmeadow, qualified for the final by finishing second in his 100m heat in 11.57.

Another Hercules Wimbledon athlete in action at Ashford was Cassian Hyde who took 10th place in the U17 men's 1,500m final in four minutes, 11.95secs after finishing fifth in his heat in a faster 4:11.68.

Hercules Wimbledon's James Garnier was runner-up in Saturday's Wimbledon Common parkrun.

He clocked a personal best of 17:33, taking 53 seconds off his best time set when he finished 11th in July.

Felix Allen also clocked a personal best of 18:29 when he finished 11th and second veteran over 40. He sliced 14 seconds off his previous best time set a fortnight earlier.

Ruth Wallace was first woman in 18:48.

Hercules Wimbledon over 50 veteran Charles Hampden-Smith clocked his best parkrun time of the year when he finished 11th out of 98 runners in Peter Pan Park, Yorkshire, on Saturday. He was the top veteran over 50 finisher.

On the road, marathon runner Tom Cheetham was 22nd out 378 runners in the Isle of Wight half-marathon on Sunday in one hour, 28:54. He was sixth veteran over 45.

This weekend, Hercules Wimbledon's youngsters will be in action in second the South London Athletics Network Super 8 meeting of the season at the David Weir Arena, Sutton, on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the club's older athletes will be competing in the Veterans AC track and field championships at the Millennium Arena, Battersea Park.
