Croydon Amphibians won medals at the Swim Wales Summer Nationals and Malta National Swimming Championships this week.

Tor Wheeler, James Simms and Dennis Cousins won seven medals between them at the Wales National Pool in Swansea, while Will Marston won three bronze medals in Malta.

In Swansea, club captain Wheeler, 17, set personal bests in the 17 to 18 year group as he won gold in the 100m backstroke, silver in the 50m backstroke and bronze in the 200m backstroke.

Simms, 15, won 200m breaststroke gold in the 15 to 16 age group in two minutes, 33.88 seconds, which improved his best ever swim at the distance by nearly four seconds and may be enough to give him a national qualification time for next season.

Cousins, 12, came close to gold three times in the 11 to 12 age group but had to settle for silver in the 50m backstroke, the 200 individual medley and the 400m freestyle.

Other swimmers representing Amphibians at the event and posting personal best times were Jake Barnett (15-16), Alex Isidoro (15-16) and Zoe Nicholls (14-15).

In Malta, Marston won bronze medals in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 100m backstroke.

Just before the Welsh Nationals took place, the 4x100m medley relay team of Rhys Singleton, Jordan Owens, Finn Slattery and Cousins were in action at the British National Age Group Championships in Sheffield and took six seconds off their qualifying time to finish 28th out of 40 teams in 4.27:52.

Singleton, 14, also raced in three individual events in the 14-years-old category. In the 200m backstroke he came 13th in 2:16.66, in the 100m backstroke he was 17th in 1:03.36 and in the 100m freestyle he was 15th in 56.46.

Rebecca Mulcahy represented Croydon Amphibians at the British Gas ASA National Championships (Youth, Open and MC) in the 50m freestyle, coming 23rd in 28.08.
