Banstead boss Graeme Banyard was delighted with his team for bouncing back from a 7-1 defeat at Camberley Town with a 5-1 home win over Chertsey Town on Saturday, but he is pleading with his players to stop giving Jekyll and Hyde performances.

He said: "The lads showed great character to put that heavy beating behind them and gain such a fine win. But I just wish they would show some consistency instead of taking us all on a roller-coaster ride.

"I told them after the seven-goal defeat that they had let themselves down and I am really pleased at how well they have responded. But I've pointed out to them that there is no point in just giving their best in one game - they have got to put a run together."

Banyard reckons the transformation was mainly due to his three new signings - Lee Hall and Tommy Ellis from Chipstead and Paul Hunt on loan from Met Police. He explained: "They are all forwards and all scored against Chertsey to increase confidence throughout the team, with the result that we tightened up in midfield and defence.

"Hunt may not be available for long, but, like Ellis, he has played for Banstead previously. Hall is only 19 and, since being released by Fulham, he has had spells with Walton & Hersham and Chipstead.

"Steve Coyle, who has joined us from Newport Isle of Wight, also came in for his league debut on Saturday and was outstanding at centre-back. I am now hoping to sign two more defenders, as Russell Townsend is serving a three-game suspension and my brother Russell Banyard has joined Corinthian Casuals."

A fine Kev Terry solo effort and a 30-yard strike by Darren Woods completed the scoring against Chertsey to give Banstead only their second win in their last nine games.

This Saturday Banstead, who are ninth in the Combined Counties Premier Division, are away to second placed Chessington & Hook.
