Kingstonian manager Alan Dowson had no excuses following his side’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of league leaders Billericay Town on Saturday.

The second defeat in five days all but knocks Ks out of play-off contention following a promising run of form.

It was a game the hosts never looked like winning following Glen Poole’s 29th minute penalty following a hotly disputed foul by Gary MacDonald.

Whilst Dowson suggested: "It was never a penalty in a million years,” he heaped praise on the visitors, declaring them “the best side in the league by absolute miles.”

The lead was doubled following Courney White’s flicked header from Dave Collis’ free kick in the 63rd minute, and the two goals were more than enough in a game where Billericay barely looked troubled.

Dowson was quick to admit his sides failings.

“I thought we got battered for the majority of the game, they were better in every department," he said.

The closest Ks got to a goal was Matt Pattison’s 46th minute volley which stung the hands of Dale Brightly in the Billericay goal.

Dowson was quick point out this lack of chances.

"Their keeper’s barely had a save to make. We defended for 80 minutes, and the reason why is that whenever we got it into Bobby Traynor he couldn’t keep hold of it.”

While the defeat was discouraging, Dowson aimed to channel it into improving his side next season.

“As a management team and group of players we’ve been turned over today but it shows where we’ve got to get to next season.

"The disappointing thing is that I didn’t know quite how far we were off the top two and the honest truth is we would take any one of their team over all of ours. It wasn’t a lack of trying, we just weren’t good enough today.”

As far as the rest of the season goes, Dowson’s focus seems to have shifted to the London Senior Cup where his side face Cray Wanderers in the semi final.

“We may look at resting a few players and concentrating on the cup. We don’t want a season to forget completely.”
