Tooting and Mitcham go into a big week in their fight against relegation with manager Kenny Brown insisting defeat would not be the be all and end all.

The Terrors had to watch fellow strugglers Leatherhead, Concord Rangers and Harrow Borough all win on Saturday after their match at Cray Wanderers was called off 10 minutes before kick off due to a small frozen area in one goalmouth.

It meant Tooting find themselves four points from safety ahead of crunch games with Harrow this Saturday and Aveley seven days later - although Brown will not press the panic button should results not go their way.

"These games are important as we don't want to drop points against teams that are close to us," said Brown.

"But, if we win on Saturday it does not mean we are safe and Harrow are down or vice versa if we lose.

"We have only just started the second half of the season.

"We need to get some consistency and go on an unbeaten run, East Thurrock were second bottom before Christmas are now nine points off the play-offs, all you need to do is get a good run together.

"What is guaranteed and what we know will happen is that points will be dropped along the way until the end of the season.

"We are confident and know that if we are playing well it will have to be a good team that does beat us."

The referee postponed the match late in the day on Saturday despite having twice confirmed with Brown and Cray manager Ian Jenkins that they were happy to play.

"It was strange," added Brown.

"We got there an hour and a half before kick off and met with the referee then and the pitch looked immaculate apart from this small patch between the goalposts.

"He said as long as the two managers are ok we will go ahead and we were and still were when he checked again in the warm up.

"We didn't know anything else until we were doing our final preparations and someone popped their head in the dressing room to say it was off.

"Cray were very good about it and let us train on a pitch they have behind their ground and kept the bar open for our lads to have some food.

"But it was disappointing not to play, especially after the Billericay game as you always want to play quickly after a win."
