Kingstonian manager Alan Dowson wished he could be happier after his side left The Dripping Pan with only a point after a 1-1 at Lewes.

“It isn’t a bad result, but I think we should have won the game,” Dowson said.

"The first half was the best we’ve played all season. But if you miss chances in the 6-yard box then you get hurt."

And it was that level of frustration that was shared by much of the away support.

Lewes led for much of the game after Paul Booth dispatched a 16th minute penalty following Aaron Goode’s foul on Nic Ciardini.

The score remained that way until the 81st minute as Ks grabbed their third late goal of 2012.

Loanee Stuart Duff continued to impress and it was he that beat a man before nut-megging the keeper to rescue a point for the visitors.

Duff maintained his starting position ahead of Bobby Traynor and put himself about for the full 90 minutes, causing problems for former-K Max Hustwick at the heart of the Lewes defense.

And Dowson agreed Duff’s performance more than merited his goal.

“I’m pleased for Duff. He kept on trying, kept on working hard, and that’s why he’s getting a game at the moment," he added.

Chances had fallen earlier in the game to Duff, as well as two presentable free headers for returning captain Gary McDonald.

Matt Pattison continued to impress in midfield and twice was denied by impressive saves from the host’s keeper Rikki Banks.

If the penalty was Lewes’ only first half chance, they should have tied the game up in the second as Michael Malcolm blazed over the bar with only Tolfrey to beat and plenty of time.

The second half was played with neither side’s full-time manager on the sideline.

Lewes boss Steve King is suspended pending investigation and hence was not present at the game, while Dowson was sent to the stands in the 29th minute following an overly- vociferous appeal for a backpass.

“It was definitely a backpass, everyone saw it. I did shout at the ref, but he didn’t hear it, it was the linesman halfway down the pitch,” he said.

While there were many positives to be had for Ks, the manager was not without complaint in certain individuals, and demanded they earned their spot.

“Week in week out, if they play well, they stay in the team. You play well, you keep the shirt," he added.
