Hampton’s striker Dave Tarpey grabbed the plaudits from boss Mark Harper on Saturday, but the Beavers chief warned there is more to his squad than the in-form frontman, writes Frida Larsson.

Tarpey, who has had a slow start to the campaign, scored both goals in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Hayes & Yeading – taking his tally in the competition to five goals.

And Harper admitted his form had forced him to eat his words.

“He has done brilliantly after I criticised him earlier in the year for not being a forward,” he said.

“I’ve always said he was a winger, but he’s proved me wrong, which is fantastic.

“He worked his socks off and believes in his own ability, which is brilliant.

“He’s given the side the work rate I’ve asked for and is reaping the rewards by scoring goals.“ Harper’s men have won their past four games and that form is giving the Beveree chief a selection headache.

“Everyone is working extra hard to get into the starting 11,” he added.

“I had a few headaches about what side to put out on Saturday, but the guys I brought in did superbly well. It’s all about the squad, especially at this time of the year.”

“I think a lot of the players are on a massive learning curve in their football career. Hopefully, they’ll learn each game whether they win, lose or draw and the youngsters have stood up and made a good show of themselves.”

Luton Town loan star JJ O’Donnell has confirmed a month long return to the Beveree, which will see him at the club until January 11.

Hampton & Richmond Borough hope to continue their winning ways when they travel to Truro on Saturday in the Blue Square South.
