Three wins does not a turnaround make, is the message Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson has sent out to his in-form men.

Ks beat Cray Wanderers 4-2 at Kingsmeadow on Saturday to make it a hat-trick of wins against top five opposition, since a humiliating 3-0 FA Cup first qualifying round exit at Poole Town in September.

Goals from Simon Huckle, Gary MacDonald, Ali Chabaan and Alan Tait saw Dowson’s men come from behind to triumph, thanks to a crazy 57th minute that had Ks 3-2 ahead having been 2-1 down.

And, while the Ks chief has been delighted with his team’s response to the adversity of three weeks ago, he insisted the club’s revival remained in its embrionic stages.

“Have we turned it around? It is too early to say really,” he said this week.

“If you’d looked at the situation a few weeks ago you would have looked at this run of games against Hendon, Lewes and Cray and said it was tough.

“The lads have responded and played well. It has been about getting some belief back in the camp and I’m pleased for them and they should be pleased with themselves.

“This is just the start. I’m not setting any targets or saying this and that. We’ve just got to get on with things.

“There is a spring in everyone’s step and we have got to build on it.”

Simon Huckle gave Ks the lead on Saturday, but they slipped 2-1 down before MacDonald’s equaliser and Chabaan and Tait’s winning strikes.

Of Dowson’s major summer signings only Ian Selley, Chris Page and Michael Gordon remain after Dewayne Clarke was released last week.

But full back Tom Bird, who played in Monday’s 2-1 friendly with Walton & Hersham, is set for a return to action having been sidelined since a 4-1 win at Tooting & Mitcham.

And Dowson admitted having the 22-year-old back in harness is only going to help ahead of Saturday’s trip to AFC Hornchurch.

“Tom was probably our best player at the start of the season. Everyone knows how much I rate him,” he added.

“We need to get our best players on the pitch and we need him back.”
