Underdogs Kingstonian's best display of the season saw them beat a strong Hampton & Richmond side in the second round of the Westview League Cup at Kingsmeadow on Monday.

Ks raced to a three-goal lead before the Beavers responded in the last half-hour to twice reduce the arrears.

The menacing Mazin Ahmad was the man of the match, but young Danny Morris scored a brace for Ks, including a volley from distance that is already a candidate for goal of the season.

Ks other marksman was striker James Rose, who deserved to get onto the score sheet for the first time this season.

It was all perfect preparation for the Ks' tough FA Cup encounter at Kingsmeadow on Sunday against another Ryman Premier side, Ramsgate.

Hampton started brightly, with Victor Asombang and Elliott Godfrey going close.

Then Asombang tried a shot from the edge of the Ks' box which was well held by keeper Luke Garrard.

Ahmad made a couple of penetrating runs for Ks, but Hampton went closest on 31 minutes when Glen Harris sent in a fierce 25 yarder that keeper Luke Garrard did well to block on his line, with skipper Julian Sills clearing up.

A minute later, though, it was Ks who took the lead.

Ahmad again took off down the left at electrifying pace and picked picked out Morris, who blasted the ball into the roof of the net.

In the first minute of the second half Godfrey tried his luck from the edge of the Ks box, but Garrard held his drive.

The Beavers were pushing up and Ks punished them again with two stunning goals in two minutes.

On 65 minutes a lovely cushioned header from Rose set up Morris some 25 yards out and he lashed a super volley into the roof of the net, with Lovett a mere spectator.

A minute later, with the away defence in disarray, Asher Hudson pushed the ball down the right flank into the path of Rose, who took off and coolly fired into the far corner of the net, past the outcoming Lovett.

This stunned the visitors into playing their best football of the night, aided by some wise substitutions, and they made it 3-1 on 72 minutes.

Sub Ayman Mashali seemed to have the ball glued to his feet before setting up Godfrey, who blasted the ball low past a full-stretch Garrard.

It was now all Hampton, with Mashali's shot rebounding off a post and Sills making a timely clearance.

On 79 minutes a rampant Hampton scored again, a long, high clearance from skipper Dean Wells sending sub Lawrence Yaku racing down the middle of the park to beat Garrard with a perfectly struck drive.

Five minutes from the end Mashali set up Cook in the Ks box but Garrard smothered his shot. Then, in the final minute, a free-kick from Wells found Yaku, who turned on a sixpence, only to blast the ball over.

Ks: Garrard, Hudson, Wetherall, Symes, Sills (capt), Taylor, Corbett (Coke, 63mins), Harrison (Lodge, 74mins), Rose (Reid, 87mins), Ahmad, Danny Morris. Subs not used: Ellis, Jenkins.
