Boss Alan Devonshire will keep calm and carry on after thieves stole matchday takings following a break-in at cash-strapped Hampton & Richmond Borough on New Year’s day.

Intruders emptied the contents of the safe - including gate receipts - in Hammond’s Bar at around 10:30pm after Saturday’s 0-0 with Staines Town had attracted the Beveree Stadium’s biggest attendance of the season.

“It is not ideal, but you just have to accept it has happened and get on with it,” added Devonshire.

Meanwhile, the Blue Square South outfit has appealed to anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.

“With no home games until towards the end of January and a long trip to either Southport or Gateshead in a fortnight, this puts immense stress on the club’s immediate cash flow,” said a spokesman.

“We hope that anyone with any information will come forward and help the police catch the people responsible for this crime.”

Anyone who saw anything in or around Warfield Avenue and Station Road between 6pm and 11pm on Saturday - no matter how insignificant - can contact the police on the non-emergency line 0300 123 1212.

Otherwise please contact the burglary team at Twickenham Police Station or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
