Hampton & Richmond Borough boss Alan Devonshire will put his nose to the grind stone to halt his side’s alarming slump.

The Beavers crashed 2-0 at Farnborough on Saturday to make it six games without a Blue Square South win since beating Dover Athletic 3-2 at home on October 2.

Devonshire has seen skipper Dean Wells take an indefinite break from the game, while goalkeeper Matt Lovett is also sidelined with a knee injury.

It leaves the Hampton outfit short on experience and the Beveree chief says he will work night and day to bring in re-enforcements.

“We got a couple of good results, but I knew this was going to happen. You don’t have to be rocket scientist to realise that,” he said.

“Of course our form is a concern. I know my job. I need to get a couple of players in to give us a lift, but it is hard work on the budget we have.

“I’ve watched a couple of games and I’m waiting on a phone call to see if I can get one in by the weekend.

“If not, we will definitely have one or two new faces next week.”

Hampton face Ebbsfleet Town and Chelmsford in their next two league games and Devonshire admits his side’s run is more likely to get worse before it gets better.

“We didn’t play very well at the weekend, but it wasn’t as bad as some have said,” he added.

“They had plenty of the ball but only had five or six shots on target.

“We’ve got two very tough league games to come . We are in the middle of a tough run, and with a young side it is only going to get harder.”

But Saturday’s FA Trophy trip to Ryman Premier League Bognor Regis Town may provide some respite.

“It would be a huge confidence boost if we can get into the next round of the Trophy and that is what we are out to do,” said Devonshire.

“They’ve been playing well and their confidence is high, but we know exactly what we are going to get.”

Striker Charlie Moone will miss the trip to the south coast with a groin injury, while Lawrence Yaku and Ian Hodges are expected to be available.

Hampton’s next three games: Nov 20 Bognor Regis Town (a), 27 Ebbsfleet Utd (h), Dec 4 Chelmsford City (a).
