Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson has backed striker Bobby Traynor to become an all-time Ks legend after his brace accounted for Canvey Island on Saturday.

The 27-year-old hit his 13th and 14th goals of the campaign as Dowson’s men ran out 3-1 winners after Tobi Jinadu had set his side on its way.

The former Brentford trainee has 123 goals in 180 appearances for the club since signing from Walton & Hersham in 2007 and his efforts as the weekend saw his side close the gap on Ryman Premier League leaders Sutton United.

Club legends - including Phil Wingfield, Tarkan Mustafa, Matt Crossley and John McCormack - were at Kingsmeadow on Saturday to mark the club’s 125th anniversary.

And Dowson reckons Traynor - who is now fifth on Kingstonian’s all-time goalscorers list - is fast becoming one himself.

“He was excellent and in the last few weeks he has got his energy back,” he said.

“He has not quite got the right to stand with the legends because there are some all-time greats there and they are legends of the game.

“I’d like to think that when Bobby finishes here hell be one of them.”
