Mark Butler admits he plans a summer of tinkering at Colston Avenue as he looks to avoid another disastrous season for Carshalton Athletic.

The Robins secured their Ryman Premier survival on the final day of last season, but have since seen talismanic striker Richard Jolly jump ship to join rivals Sutton United.

And former Ashford Town and Margate boss Butler, who took over the reins after caretaker boss Ian Hazel stood down last month, expects plenty more movement during the next two months.

He said: “I have spoken to all of the squad and in the main I would like all of them to stay.

“But I am not going to kid myself that everybody will come back.

“I know that two or three of our players have offers elsewhere and if someone comes in for them and they want to go I will not stand in their way.

“I think it is fair to say that we will probably get some players from Ashford Town down here as well.

“I know some people will be alarmed by that as they were relegated last year, but I know those players very well and some of them just need a new challenge.”

Butler has targeted strikers as one of his prime concerns, with Byron Harrison’s future up in the air as well as Jolly’s departure to deal with.

He added: “Obviously we need to find a replacement for Richard and that is a priority.

“Him leaving was all pretty amicable - we wanted him to stay but on different terms and I have no problem with him moving on.

“He was a great servant to this club and I wish him the best.

“With Byron he has told me he is committed to this club, as long as someone from a higher level does not come in for him.

“If they do, and he wants to go, again we will not stand in his way.

“This summer will be a bit of a juggling act for us - you do not want to get left behind recruitment wise as the best players are often gone, but equally we do not want to panic.”
