Paul Honey admits he has been left shell-shocked after both he and former skipper David Graves were the latest players to be dumped on the Carshalton Athletic scrapheap.

Both Honey and Graves were phoned by Robins boss Francis Vines on Tuesday to be told their services were no longer required.

And for the 25-year-old midfielder, who has made just five appearances in an injury-blighted campaign, the news came as a bolt from the blue.

Honey said: “I was all set to go to the Badshot Lea game as I thought I would get a run-out and then I got this news.

“It has come as a total shock - in fact it is such a shock I hardly know what to say.

“Usually you get an idea when something like this is going to happen but we did not have a clue.

“I spoke to David this afternoon and we were both totally in the dark.

“To go from being major players in the side, like we were, to being told you are no longer wanted in such a short space of time is a massive shock.”

The exit of both Honey and Graves means that just Barry Stevens and Richard Jolly remain at the club from the side that ran out for previous boss Hayden Bird’s final game in August.

And former Sutton United man Honey is not convinced over the reasons for his departure.

He added: “I was told that it was for financial reasons but I am not sure about that.

“It is quite hard to understand.

“I am sure there are a lot more things going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about.

“I am very disappointed to be leaving and will just have to wait and see what happens next.”
