Kingstonian 1 Carshalton Athletic 0

A last-gasp audacious goal from striker Bobby Traynor was just enough for hosts Ks to squeeze past neighbours Carshalton, who had dominated the first half of this Ryman Premier League match.

It was an important victory for Ks, their first home league win since October 10 and their first league double of the season.

It certainly didn't start well, with keeper and skipper Luke Garrard and defender John Fletcher joining Dean Lodge on the injury list.

The first half definitely belonged to Frankie Vines's Robins, with the home side taking an hour before they forced Carshalton keeper Nick Hamman into making a save.

The Robins were also unlucky at the beginning of the second half when a Richard Jolly effort rattled the Ks' woodwork.

The game seemed destined for a goalless stalemate until a superbly worked training ground rehearsed free-kick from Ks man of the Matt Gray allowed Traynor to grab all the points.

Ks have an early Christmas present tonight (Monday November 30, 7.45pm) with the visit of a Crystal Palace XI in the third round of the Surrey Senior Cup.

On just five minutes, it was the visitors who were busy. A quickly taken free-kick from Kenny Beaney found the dangerous Jolly unmarked in the Ks box but his flick into the goalmouth was mopped up by an alert Rob Tolfrey, impressive on his Kingsmeadow debut.

A minute later it was Beaney again who found Jolly down the right flank, he tried to find striker Craig Faulconbridge in the Ks goalmouth, but overstretching he couldn't connect.

Then Jolly set up Faulconbridge outside the Ks box but he shot wide.

On 18 minutes, a throughball from pacy Robins winger Rashid Kamara found midfielder Karl Murray deep in the Ks box but hs poked his drive wide of the far post.

In reply Gray tried a couple of long-distance throws from the left and right flank, which were both comfortably cleared.

On 28 minutes, Gray sent in a long, high free-kick that Hamann held with Simon Huckle in contention. On 32 minutes, a blistering drive from Murray outside the Ks box was pushed out for a corner by a full-stretch Tolfrey.

With two minutes to the break, a Barry Stevens cross from the right meant for Faulconbridge was headed away by a confident Francis Duku, who led his backline well all game.

On 52 minutes the Robins were unlucky not to break the deadlock.

A Gray pass went AWOL to Jolly and, in space, he let loose a fierce rising drive that flew past a full-stretch Tolfrey, unluckily slamming against the inside of the bar and rebounding to safety.

It was a wake-up call for Ks, who had a much better second half.

Christian Jolley took off on a long, penetrating run down the right before being stopped by defender Justyn Roberts.

Murray found Stevens down the left but Tolfrey raced out of his box to clear.

On 61 minutes a long free-kick from Gray found Huckle on the far post but his header was held by Hamann on his second attempt.

Then striker Carl Wilson-Denis collected a loose ball on the edge of the Robins box but he blasted over.

On 65 minutes, a cross from Robins defender and skipper David Ray was only half-cleared to Kamara but he blasted over.

A Jolley shot from the edge of the Robins box was smothered by Hamann.

Vines then made a double substitution of Joshua Webb and Stefan Cox in attempt to make the breakthrough.

A long free-kick from Beaney was well held by a surrounded Tolfrey.

With both backlines in the ascendancy, a goal looked extremely unlikely that was until three minutes remaining and it was something special.

Gray delayed his free-kick and, instead of swinging the expected cross into the Robins box, instead released BOBBY TRAYNOR free down the right, where he belted in a shot that struck the outstretched leg of defender Joe Dolan and into the roof of the Robins net.

With three minutes of additional time, the Robins pushed everyone up but a penetrating cross from Roberts into a crowded Ks box was poked away by Huckle.
