Frankie Sawyer insists he can forge a deadly partnership with Richard Jolly - if Robins boss Hayden Bird gives him the opportunity.

The livewire striker moved to Colston Avenue this summer after firing 17 goals for Hastings United in the Ryman Premier last season.

And the 20-year-old, tipped as a future star by many observers, reckons he and Jolly could be Carshalton’s very own dream team.

Sawyer said: “At the start of the season there is no doubt that Richard will be the main man as his record speaks for itself.

“But I am really confident that we could play well together.

“I am looking to learn a lot from him, and it all comes down to how Hayden wants to play.

“I know a lot of games last season he played one up front, but he is talking about playing me and Richard up front with Charlie Ide just behind, which would be great.

“I know people have talked how the three of us are quite small, but Carshalton are not the type of side to hoof the ball in the air or play off a big man so I do not think that matters.

“All I can do is prove myself in the pre-season games and try and force Hayden’s hand.”

Sawyer, who works as a painter and decorator away from football, admits he was tempted by offers from a higher level before electing for the Robins.

But he reveals that once Bird came calling, his mind was made up.

He added: “When we played Carshalton last season they were by far the best footballing side in the league, and I include Dover in that.

“I was going to leave Hastings in the summer, and Eastbourne Borough were very interested.

“But when Hayden rang me and told me the players he was signing it didn’t take long to make a decision.

“I like the way they play football and I think there is a very good chance of being successful here.

“I’m just looking forward to getting started.”
