Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson is hoping to have the core of his Ryman League Division One South title winning side tied down to new deals with club by the end of next week.

The 38-year-old saw his men close their campaign with a 1-1 draw at Ashford Town to set the seal on a ten-match unbeaten run that delivered the league trophy to Kingsmeadow last weekend.

The genial Geordie has warned some of the squad may not remain with the club beyond the summer as he prepares for a Premier Division title assault having won promotion at the end of his second full season in charge.

Dowson sat down with chairmen Mark Anderson and Malcolm Winwright earlier this week to hammer out his playing budget for next season and has his eyes on a handful of bargains with the recession taking its toll this summer.

But he admits getting the crown jewels of his current crop on board is top of his priorities now a memorable season is complete.

“We’ll be making a few offers next week. The first thing I have to do is get my front two sorted. Bobby Traynor and Carl Wilson-Denis are top of my list,” he said.

“We are confident of keeping the players we want to, they’d be mad to want to leave with the ambitions we have to take this club forward.

“The recession means there isn’t as much cash sloshing about everywhere and without a doubt that is going to affect the amount of money players can expect across the board.

“I’m delighted with the budget we will have next season. I couldn’t be happier.”

Defender Adam Thompson’s equaliser on Saturday ensured Dowson’s men will start their next campaign unbeaten in their last ten league games.

And while the Kingsmeadow manager would have preferred three points to close the season with, he was more than happy with just the one.

“The was a strange atmosphere about the game because we had already won the championship,” he added.

“I was desperate for us to get the equaliser because I don’t want to lose that unbeaten run. Their keeper was man of the match and I have no complaints about the result.

“It was important for us to start next year unbeaten. it gives us an edge.”
