The freshly crowned champions of the Ryman League Division One South Kingstonian wrapped up their highly successful season with a tough encounter at pre-season promotion favourites Ashford Town (Kent).

Although there was nothing on the game apart from pride, the Nuts and Bolts did have a chance to end their season on a league double high against the champions.

It looked on the cards as keeper Josh Willis gave a superb display and kept a number of dangerous Ks strikes at bay.

When the home side took the lead at the beginning of the second half the K's, now without prolific striker Bobby Traynor who had taken a kick to the ribs, had to roll up their sleeves and work hard.

Their patience was rewarded late on when contender for player of the year Adam Thompson powered home a set-piece.

In additional time Dean Lodge turned and unleashed a powerful drive that looked goalbound but again the impressive Willis was there.

On five minutes it was long, hopeful ball from Jamie Beer that found hard-working striker Carl Wilson-Denis on the edge of the home box but his header went wide.

The home side replied with a strike from defender Daniel Brathwaite on the edge of the K's box which he sliced wide.

On 10 minutes Lodge took off on a promising run down the left, cut in and let loose a blistering rising drive that was tipped over by Willis.

Nick Rundell, playing his last game for the Ks, sent in a corner from the right that everyone missed and was cleared on the far post.

Three minutes later striker Paul Jones took off down the right and sent a testing ball into the K's goalmouth that an outstretched Shawn Beveney just failed to find.

A Thompson back pass to keeper Luke Garrard lacked legs, the dangerous Jones intercepted, and sent in another low cross which Rundell cleared conceding a corner.

On 27 minutes Rundell sent Tommy Williams free down the left, he whipped in a cross that found an unmarked Liam Collins on the far post and he struck the ball well but again Willis made an excellent block.

Then Williams saw Willis off his line and from distance sent in a lob that unluckily grazed the Ashford bar on its way over.

Sub NJ Lampton's cross from the right flank was met with a powerful Williams first-time strike that again looked goalbound but Willis turned the ball out for a corner.

The half ended with Jones slipping a ball through to Beveney deep in the K's box but Garrard made a fine point-blank save

In the 50th minute the Nuts & Bolts opened the scoring.

A powerful drive from distance from Ryan Briggs was blocked by a full-stretch Garrard but striker STANLEY MUGUO was on hand to sweep home the follow-up.

Then Brathwaite sent in a cross from the left for winger Tony Browne on the far post but Rundell made an important defensive header away.

Just after the hour Lodge made a cheeky backheel to Beer on the edge of the home box but the Ks defender sliced his drive wide.

On 70 minutes a Wilson-Denis flick found Lodge on the edge of the Ashford box but his well-struck low drive was again pushed away by a full-stretch Willis.

Seven minutes later defender Craig Wilkins upended Lodge right on the edge of the home box. ADAM THOMPSON struck the free-kick low with some verocity home past the defensive wall and a diving Willis.

Ks pushed forward for the winner, Wilson-Denis struck wide from 20 yards. With four minutes to go Lodge took off down the left but his rising drive was pushed out by Willis.

Nuts & Bolts sub Jimmy Bottle took off down the left but his eventual cross was headed to safety by sub Wayne Finnie. Then Garrard tipped over a header from sub Charlie Glyde.

A minute into additional time Lodge turned on the edge of the home box and let loose a low on-target drive that was blocked by a full-stretch Willis, Simon Huckle swept home the loose ball but he was adjudged offside.
