Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson has admitted he is tired of listening to fans criticising his players after warning Ks still need all the support they can get to claim promotion this season.

The genial Geordie reacted angrily after some sections turned on NJ Lampton on Saturday, despite the midfielder having a large hand in the own goal that helped Ks on their way to a 2-0 triumph over Leatherhead.

Simon Huckle added the second to make sure Dowson’s men edged three points clear at the top of the Ryman League Division One South table, with a whopping three games in hand.

It leaves Ks in a great position to land Ryman League Premier Division football at Kingsmeadow for the first time since relegation in 2005.

And Dowson admits he is amazed there are still people ready to slam his playing staff, despite them reaching lofty heights this season.

“There are some people in the crowd who always give Neil stick and I’ve kept my mouth shut for long enough,” he said.

“I pick the team and if someone wants to have a go, then they can have a go at me. If someone is having a bad game then I’ll be the one to tell him.

“Neil scored and for him to get stick like that was a disgrace, especially when his mum and dad are in the crowd.

“It surprises me that there are still people who want to have a go when we are doing so well.

“It is forgotten now. Ninety-five per cent of our supporters are different gear, but we need everyone behind us if we are going to keep this thing going.”

Kingstonian followed Saturday’s triumph with a 2-1 London Senior Cup triumph over Ryman League Division One North play-off chasers Wingate & Finchley, despite fielding a side sporting nine changes to the one that played at the weekend.

Youngsters Ross Chalke, Tom Dilloway and Rob Sheridan caught the eye as Dowson’s men illustrated the strength in depth the he hopes can carry his side to the title.

And the Kingsmeadow chief has been quick to praise youth team chief Adrian Withers for the efforts that have presented him with a selection headache ahead of Sunday’s clash with Walton Casuals.

“People say we have got a big squad, but players don’t get paid unless they play. There are a number who might have left by now, but they are all desperate to play for this club,” he added.

“I have been given plenty of food for thought. There are youngsters, who I didn’t think were ready to step up, knocking on my door with a strong case for their inclusion. That is a tribute to Adrian.”

And Dowson does not want this season’s success to be a flash in the pan.

“I look around and I can see we are building a club for the future here and that has only come about through hard work. I don’t have to look too far for new talent,” he said.
