Manager Andy Scott has hinted he is not afraid to dip into the non-league scene again as he bids to boost his Brentford squad by four more players before the start of the season.

Scott completed his five-month pursuit of Reading keeper Ben Hamer last week, the 20-year-old signing a season-long loan deal.

The manager picked up 20-year-old Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Leigh Mills in similar circumstances, and this week pulled off another coup by landing Peterborough United full-back Adam Newton.

Those signings take to six the number of Scott's signings since the end of the campaign, following the acquisition of Blackpool's Marcus Bean and non-league graduates Sam Woods and Moses Ademola.

Brentford are thought to be one of five league clubs tracking the progress of Sutton United whizz-kid Jerson Dos Santos and Scott, a former fans' favourite at Gander Green Lane, has not ruled out taking a punt on the 17-year-old as one for the future.

"The first team is my priority at the moment," he said.

"He is not one for the here and now, but has a good physique and certainly has the potential to develop further.

"I haven't been in touch with Sutton since he trained with us a couple of times last season, but we may open discussions soon."

With the departure of Matt Heywood to League Two rivals Grimsby, Scott is now searching for a third centre-half for his squad - alongside Mills and Karleigh Osborne - and admits his summer spending is far from complete.

"I don't want to go into the season with only two centre backs and we are still working on alternatives," he added.

"We have got a half-decent budget, but it is about making sure we are spending the money on the right players.

"It is an exciting time of year for everyone.

"If we can excite the fans a bit more with three or four more signings, we can really hit the ground running."
