Tooting & Mitcham boss Billie Smith trusts Charlton Athletic boss Alan Pardew to hand the Terrors a cash windfall should Dorian Smith stay at the Valley beyond this season.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who scored in Saturday's 2-0 triumph over Horsham YMCA, completed a switch to the Championship side this week but will be loaned to the Terrors until May.

The youngster had been tracked by Bristol Rovers, Yeovil Town and Hereford United earlier in the season.

Addicks striker Chris Dickson made a similar switch from Dulwich Hamlet last season, netting the Ryman League Division One South club an initial £35,000, which has since risen to £50,000.

The Terrors chief, who tipped Pardew off about Dickson, had feared the club would get nothing for his Peckham-based star should he move to the south west.

But Pardew, who played under Smith at Corinthian Casuals and Dulwich Hamlet, has backed his former boss's instinct again, with the Tooting manager confident his club will not be left high and dry.

"I wasn't happy with the way Bristol Rovers went about things. They went at Dorian via the back door so I steered him in the directon of Alan," said Smith.

"He is not under contract, but I trust Alan and the chief executive at Charlton to look after us should the time come.

"I don't think we will get anywhere near as much as Dulwich, but I'm confident we would be written into any sell-on deal."

Tooting face Ryman League Division One South leaders Dover Athletic on Saturday.
