Hampton & Richmond winger Glen Harris has insisted he does not want to be labelled a supersub after coming off the bench to net a late winner against Bromley on Saturday.

The 26-year-old trainee teacher was one of three substitutions that turned the game, with the Beavers striking twice in the last 20 minutes to claim a 3-2 win that keeps their bid for a second successive promotion well on track.

Shaun McAuley had put Hampton ahead but goals from Danny Hockton and Nic McDonnell had Bromley in charge before Alan Devonshire's match-winning changes.

Striker Lawrence Yaku took advantage of a Ben Judge slip to net a 77th-minute equaliser, before Harris completed the smash-and-grab raid five minutes later.

The ex-Slough Town man's far-post header brought back memories of last season's crucial strike against Harrow Borough as Hampton marched to the Ryman League Premier Division title. It is a trick he has repeated already in this campaign, against Wealdstone in the FA Cup to take his side into the first-round proper.

But the live-wire winger is not happy with the reputation he is getting, and is hoping his latest star turn can lead to another chance in the starting line-up.

"It is not a habit I like too much because I want to be starting and the manager knows that," he said.

"Everyone is capable of playing a variety of positions and, with Shaun McAuley coming in in a similar position, my chances have been limited.

"It is great to have made such an impact and, hopefully, it will convince Alan I am capable of playing more than a bit part.

"I am happy to be part of the squad and the place is really buzzing but, if a club were to come in for me, I would have to think about it because I want to be playing regularly."

Harris is convinced Saturday's fightback proves Hampton can cash in on a fine Blue Square South debut season to clinch a play-off spot.

"I think the entire squad would be very disappointed if we didn't finish in the top five, considering how far we have come," he added.

"We have beaten Havant & Waterlooville 3-0 this season and they scored two against Liverpool at the weekend. We would be stupid not to think promotion is a possibility now."
