Walton Casuals have recorded their biggest victory in over a decade on Saturday, writes Kane Brooker.
A second-half goal frenzy saw the Stags emerge as 8-0 Ryman Division One SOuth winners at hapless Whitstable Town.
Braces from Gabriel Odunaike, Luke Medley and Tom Collins secured the emphatic victory, with Rhys Paul and Scott Day also making their way onto the scoresheet.
The result, the club's best in 11 seasons of Ryman League football and their fifth best in history, came two months after the same trip to Kent saw boss Anthony Gale’s men reduced to eight men and knocked out the FA Cup.
Gale was on the pitch rather than the touchline the last time such a recorded was recorded, as he featured in a 10-0 triumph over Chessington United in December 2004.
“It seems like a long time ago, but I remember it was around Christmas time,” Gale said reflecting on the previous victory.
“It meant a lot today though to win with the deficit that we did.
“It was a great reaction from the lads after our defeat earlier in the season in the FA Cup, but it was certainly a sweet victory winning by the amount of goals that we did.”
