Leyton 0 Hampton & Richmond 3

Hampton & Richmond need just one win from their last two matches to secure the Ryman Premier League title.

If Hampton can beat either Heybridge Swifts on Tuesday night or Slough Town this Saturday they will secure their first championship since winning the Spartan League in 1970.

Alan Devonshire's men gave a thrilling performance to win 3-0 at Leyton on Saturday.

They played with great freedom to dominate the game from start to finish, scoring all of their goals in the first half.

It is a pity more people weren't there to see it, but the attendance of 125 was made up almost entirely of Hampton supporters.

The Beavers almost took the lead after 35 minutes, but keeper Jamie Lunan bundled Alan Inns' long-range effort around for a corner.

But the visitors were able to celebrate after three minutes after Lawrence Yaku was shoved over in the box.

Ryan Lake made no mistake from the spot to put Hampton in front.

Hampton had the ball in the net again after 17 minutes only for the referee to rule that Ian Hodges had used his hand.

Leyton went close in the 32nd minute when Matt Lovett had to get down smartly to save, with Dean Wells completing the clearance.

But a minute later Hampton were 2-0 up. Hodges' throw went under a defender's foot, leaving Lawrence Yaku clear for a comfortable finish.

It was game over by the break. Although Rob Paris's downward header from Ryan Lake's free kick was blocked on the line, Hodges hammered home from a yard.

Hampton continued to dominate after the break, Hodges side-footing straight at Lunan.

Curtis Allen thundered a shot against the Beavers bar, but it was a succession of Hampton opportunities after that.

Paris could have had a hat-trick, going close with two headers then missing the target from six yards.

Elliott Godfrey who replaced Yaku also had opportunities to add to the total, he forced Lunan into a leaping save, lobbed just over from distance and then struck a shot against the cross bar.

Hampton: Lovett, Harper, R Lake (S Lake 80), Bartley (Matthews 57), Paris, Wells, Inns, Yaku (Godfrey 77), Hodges, McIntosh, Fernandes.

Attendance: 125.

* If it should all go wrong for Hampton then it will be a case of trying to gain promotion through the play offs.

The semi final would take place on either Tuesday, May 1 (or the followng day if against AFC Wimbledon). The final is scheduled for Saturday, May 6 at the home of the highest-placed finalist.
