Kingstonian's players have been told they have plenty to prove if they want to be at Kingsmeadow next season.

Hot-shot striker Bobby Traynor's last-minute goal salvaged a 3-3 draw with play-off hopefuls Tooting on Saturday, after finishing without a recognised centre-back.

Ks face three of the Ryman Division One South's top eight sides in the coming weeks but their safety is all but assured.

And their manager Alan Dowson believes his side's remaining six games will give him a good idea of which current squad members fit into his plans for an assault on promotion next season.

"If they can't beat the top six or seven sides now, maybe they aren't good enough to be around next season," he said.

"If they don't prove they are top six players, there is no point them being here, because that is where Ks should be.

"If I didn't think we were capable of challenging for promotion next season, I wouldn't have taken the job."

Two players who are assured of a future at Kingsmeadow are 23-year-old Traynor and midfielder Wes Goggin, 25, who this week signed contracts tying them to the club until 2008.

Traynor took his goals tally to 13 in 14 appearances for Ks with a late equaliser on Saturday, after his side twice went ahead through Neil Lampton and loan star Saheed Sankoh.

Defenders Richard Taylor (shoulder) and Wayne Finnie (ankle) departed prematurely, leaving Dowson short of centre-backs ahead of Friday's transfer deadline.

Skipper Simon Sobihy is expected to return from suspension for the clash with bottom club Corinthian Casuals, who have proved Ks' bogey side.

Ks have not beaten them in their past four encounters, including October's Surrey Senior Cup first-round exit.

And Dowson, who was pleased with a point in the circumstances, has urged his players to lay the hoodoo to rest.

"It is a case of the players getting themselves psyched up for the game, whether it is the bottom club or a top-six side," he said.
