Kingstonian assistant boss Mark Hams fears his side are back to square one after a 2-1 defeat at Fleet Town ended their recent revival.

A Simon Huckle header was the only highlight as Ks lost for the first time in three games, leaving them still needing two points to banish fears of the drop.

But Hams, who celebrated the birth of son Leo on Monday, had little else to smile about.

"We thought we had turned a corner with wins over Molesey and Walton, but that has gone out of the window," he said.

"It was very disappointing. We can do all the preparation but, if the boys don't want to go out there and give it a go, what can you do?

"Fleet went down to 10 men and, when there is a wounded animal, you have to go in for the kill. We just didn't seem to want to do anything."

Manager Alan Dowson's plans for next season were bouyed this week when sharp-shooter Bobby Traynor pledged his immediate future to the club.

The 25-year-old has bagged 12 goals in 13 games since being rescued from the footballing doldrums at Ryman League Premier Division strugglers Walton & Hersham in January.

The Raynes Park-based striker has revealed he is going nowhere with the non-league transfer deadline looming at the end of the month.

Hams admits it is an ongoing battle to make sure Traynor remains at Kingsmeadow.

"It would be stupid for us to think other people weren't looking at him with his recent record," he added.

"We are constantly talking to him to make sure he is happy.

"It goes without saying we could be in a different position without his goals."

Saturday saw the return of Woking loan striker Saheed Sonkoh, but even his arrival from the bench in the second half failed to kickstart Ks.

Hams believes the former England U18 international can follow Dulwich Hamlet striker Chris Dickson into the professional ranks, but is not guaranteed a starting slot against Tooting this week.

"I wouldn't say any of the three substitutes put their hands up to start," he said.

"Tooting have been flying recently and it would be nice to put one over on one of my old clubs."
