Boss Alan Dowson fears for the future of his Kingstonian side should the goals of Bobby Traynor dry up in the remaining weeks of the season.

The 23-year-old striker has bagged eight goals in 10 appearances since switching from Walton & Hersham when Dowson took charge at Kingsemadow in January.

The former Swan netted five times in February to pick up the Ryman Division One South Golden Boot award for the month.

But a lack of goals from other sources has prompted Dowson to sign former Crystal Palace frontman Chris Sharpling to make sure his side are not too reliant on the in-form striker.

"Without Bobby's goals you have to wonder where we would be now," said Dowson after Saturday's 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Chatham Town, courtesy of Traynor's 80th-minute spot kick. "People point out he has scored a lot of penalties but to put one away with 10 minutes to go when you are 1-0 down takes a lot of bottle.

"He has been a big plus for us since I have been here, but we need other scoring options.

"You can't say it was a good point because we should beat teams like Chatham but, if we hadn't got at least that, it would have been a disaster."

Dowson felt Traynor and Wes Goggin were the only players who deserved to keep their place in the side after the previous week's 3-0 home surrender to Whyteleafe.

And Traynor's late strike against Chatham could have gone a long way to preserving Ks' Division One South status come the end of the season.

Former Woking midfielder David Shin, 18, and ex-Hillingdon Borough defender Nick Rundell, 25, made their debuts on Saturday, replacing Asher Hudson and Liam Cockerill, who joined Conference South side's Fisher Athletic and Dorchester Town respectively.

Dowson is hoping to persuade livewire Woking striker Saheed Sankoh to rejoin his struggling side this week after he recovers from an injury sustained against Met Police.

But he was less certain over the future of ex-skipper Julian Sills, suspended for Saturday's clash and rumoured to be on the verge of quitting.

"I haven't heard anything about Julian leaving but I will know more after I speak to him at training," he added.
