Carshalton Athletic assistant manager Theo Scott believes the club will break a winless away streak if it can strike the right balance between attack and defence.
A 5-3 win against promotion-chasing Folkestone last weekend, with goals from Sean O’Toole, Austin Gacheru, Brendan Murphy-McVey, Jarrell Gray and Adriano Moraes, was the Robins' eighth win from 10 home games.
But the club begin a run of five away fixtures this Saturday having not won away from Colston Avenue since last September.
“I’m sure our last game would've been great for the neutral but we were up and down off the bench throughout," said Scott.
"We wanted to be more clinical in front of goal, particularly when we play those clubs above us, so the five goals were our reward in that sense.
"But there is a need to tighten up at the back and we'll be focusing on getting our lads to make better decisions while under pressure."
Murphy-McVey reaction to win over Folkestone
Scott also praised his team's perseverance and spirit however, calling the Folkestone result a "major positive".
"We were on the ropes a little in the second-half but we dug in and showed a determination which ended up with three points.
"No doubt we have a talented group of players but we want a performance where we combine all their strengths into one game," he added.
It is a visit to Chipstead, whom sit directly above Carshalton in ninth place in the Ryman Division One South, which provides the first opportunity for Scott and his cohorts to register an elusive away win.
"We need to consider the balance between our attacking philosophy and being tougher to break down and I think a need to be more responsible when we don't have the ball will be key," said Scott.
"If we can add that to our game then I'm sure our away form will start to improve. We'll certainly be trying our hardest to achieve a win on Saturday."
Carshalton travel to Chipstead this Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
