Robins splatter the Rocks for their first points of the Ryman Premier season

A consummate second-half display earned Carshalton Athletic their first points of the Ryman Premier season as they came from behind to win 4-2 at Bognor Regis.

Manager Tommy Williams made some changes at the start of the second half with his charges trailing 2-1.

The changes worked, and the Robins swung the balance of play in their favour before hitting three goals in the last 16 minutes.

Williams said: “We absolutely bossed the second-half and played some super football, the boys thoroughly deserved their hard earned victory.

“I felt we needed to change our formation to combat their passing style, then we dug in and eventually converted our pressure into goals.”

The win did not come easy though as Bognor twice punished Carshalton from set pieces in the first half-hour, with Julian Owusu’s thumping equaliser sandwiched between the two defensive lapses.

“I was disappointed with our first-half showing but the mental toughness I saw out there second-half pleased me,” Williams added.

Robins forward Steve Butterworth, who came on at half-time, eventually broke Bognor resistance with a calmly taken leveller on 74 minutes, before Harold Odanetey slammed home a Tommy Bradford cross from close range with four minutes to go.

“I said I wanted more from our forward play and I certainly got that tonight,” Williams said.

“Julian took his goal well, Steve played a massive part in helping us turn things around and new boy Kieran Woodley worked very hard."

It was Bradford who steadied Carshalton nerves deep in stoppage time as a neat one-two on the edge of the Bognor box saw him scamper through to round the keeper and slot home.

Carshalton Athletic travel to Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
