Hampton & Richmond Borough will be disappointed they could not snatch the points from a battling 0-0 draw against a Bury Town team that huffed and puffed to little effect until late in the game.

The single point leaves the Beavers 19th in the Ryman Premier table after three games.

After Rodney Chiweshe had made a smart reflex save to tip over a John Sands header after 16 minutes, the Beavers came closest to scoring in the first half when Joe Turner was played in on the left by Charlie Moone.

Turner struck a curling shot that beat Bury keeper Garnham, but hit the post and went clear.

Joel Ledgister then retrieved the ball, his near post cross was met by Moone but Garnham recovered to push Moone's header wide.

Five minutes later, Rob Carrick picked up a George Wells pass after some good harrying work by Tommy Brewer by the Bury touchline.

Carrick dribbled into the box, beating two defenders on the way, then fired in a shot that Garnham could only parry for a corner.

Turner's 33rd minute attempt was well wide and the game was in danger of become a stalemate as neither team would budge an inch.

Not until the 68th minute was there another chance worthy of the name, as Ledgister got on the end of a Wells cross following a good run by the full back, the striker's header flew wide.

Bury started to rouse themselves after this point, Seb Dunbar managed to shoot at goal a couple of minutes later but it was an easy take for Chiweshe.

With 81 minutes on the clock, it was suddenly all hands to the pumps for the Beavers as a Bury header across goal looked to be finding its way to Semple, who was lurking at the back post but Chiweshe flew across goal to acrobatically palm the ball off the Bury midfielder's head.

The ball then came to John Sands, but Chiweshe blocked the resulting shot with his legs and fell on the ball with some relief.

At times, the game looked to be descending into an attritional midfield battle, but the Beavers will be glad with another point, and with the positive step of also keeping a clean sheet.

Next match will be at Beveree is on Tuesday, against Wealdstone (7.45pm kick off).
