Mark Hams has one final piece of the Walton Casuals jig-saw to put into place and he will be ready for the new Ryman Division One South season.

The manager is looking for a striker who will score the goals to prevent another near-miss with relegation this time round.

While pre-season has not been successful, with four defeats in five games, and no goals in four, Hams is not concerned about the results, but he is in need of goals.

He said: “If you were to just look at results, then pre-season has not been great although I would point out that we have played some big sides and only lost out by the odd goal here and there.

“But I have been pleased with the performances, we have looked hard to break down and have improved with every game.

“If anything, the lads have done better than I expected, although we do need a striker.

“I have some forwards coming to training, and if they deliver on what they have promised, we’ll be fine.”

The Casuals host Faversham Town at the Waterside this weekend, before a Monday night trip to Hastings United.

Hams said: “I know my first 11, but the games come thick and fast, and so I will be keeping a squad of about 16, and a handful of fringe players.

“I’ve told the guys on the fringe to stay with me until the end of September and see what happens.

“We are bound to get injuries, and people are bound to annoy me and get kicked out, so their chance could come.”
