Enzo Maresca says it is a “privilege” to be taking over from Pep Guardiola as manager at Manchester City.
The former Chelsea boss was named as Guardiola’s successor at the Etihad Stadium after the Catalan stepped down at the end of last season.
Speaking as he was formally unveiled by City at a press conference on Friday, the Italian said: “First of all, I have to say that it’s a privilege.
“I’ve said many times that I consider Pep probably the best coach in the world in the last 20, 25 years.
“But again, it’s a challenge. It’s nice. It’s a privilege.”
Guardiola left City as the most successful manager in the club’s history having won 20 trophies in a glittering 10-year spell.
Maresca believes the club is well set up for success to continue.
He said: “I think the organisation is the main thing. They had three managers in 17 years. This is not normal, it doesn’t happen often.
“So this is probably one of the things that I’m confident that we can do a great job.”
