Brentford chief executive Andrew Mills says caretaker boss Nicky Forster is in the best position to land the job on a permanent basis.
The veteran striker got his reign off to the perfect start with a 2-0 triumph over Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, care of a Myles Weston brace at Griffin Park.
Forster took his place on the bench alongside former Watford academy coach Mark Warburton after Andy Scott and Terry Bullivant got their marching orders on Thursday.
But Mills has refused to set out an exact timetable for appointing their permanent replacements with the Board expected to take its time to get the right man.
“I think what we should do is enter into a full and proper process where as a football club we look at the criteria that we want the manager to suit,” he said on Saturday.
“We will start to look at the criteria we need to put in place next week.
“As Nicky knows - and as we spoke about late on Thursday morning when he was pulled out of training to be asked to take charge and help us through this period - the man in the seat is probably in the best position.
“Nicky and Mark Warburton are doing the job they have been asked to do and as of today they are doing extremely well.”
Mills admitted he had been inundated with people interested in taking on the job, but was not about to be rushed in to a knee-jerk appointment with interest from former Bristol City boss Gary Johnson already confirmed.
“I have spoken on a number of phone calls to a number of people who are out of work asking where we are in the process.
“I’ve explained to all of them that there isn’t a short list, a long list or in fact any list at this stage.
“Of course, there will be but this is something we need to do in a full and considered manner.”
Forster, who believes he still has something to offer as a player, had targeted wins over Plymouth and Exeter City as his first priority and Mills admits results will play a part in the process.
“Success changes criteria and opinion quite often and the bluntest I can be is we are in a results and success driven business,” he said.
“I, as chief executive, and the board of directors, as investors and as people who have seen this club through very difficult times, only want success and they want it for the long term.
“So everything we do and every decision we take, that is the basis behind it and that will continue.”
