Epsom & Ewell Colts FC’s U18 team has made history by reaching the Surrey County Cup final, a feat no Colts’ team has managed before.
In a tough and closely-fought encounter with Croydon Juniors, Epsom & Ewell triumphed by 1-0, thanks to a close range George Gauld goal.
The game was marked by strong defensive performances by both sides and some fine saves from Matt Amis in the Colts’ goal helped close out the victory in a tense final ten minutes.
Epsom & Ewell Colts Under 18 have had a tough route to the final, which will be held on May 11, beating Sheen Lions, Horsley, Chessington and Bookham. Top scorer is Alex Tilly with five goals.
The team is currently top of the Surrey Primary league and in the semi final of the league cup as well.
The team is managed by 17-year-old Dom Woodbridge, who in his first year of management has an enviable record of 14 wins, one draw and one defeat.
Dom said: "We have enjoyed a fantastic season and the County Cup will be a fitting finale. "It would be great if we could seal an historic treble, by taking home the cup for the club for the first time, although we know we have got some hard games to come yet.”
