Croydon Harriers Martyn Rooney got back to winning ways on Saturday thanks to an all-round dominant victory at Loughborough European Athletics Permit meeting.
The 28-year-old brushed aside the men’s 400m field, that included fellow Team GB internationals Nigel Levine, Jamie Bowie and Richard Buck, in 44.55secs, his second best time of the season.
Levine followed in a distance second in 46.02secs, with Scotsman Bowie third in 46.43secs.
“It’s a nice way to finish the week”, said Rooney, who trains at Paula Radcliffe athletic stadium which is situated on the campuses of Loughborough University.
“Training has picked up and it’s nice to run in Loughborough as I train here all the time, so I knew where to kick and I knew where the wind would be, which is pretty much all the way down the back straight.
“I’m happy. It’s nice to run in Loughborough, especially as I haven’t done it for a while.”
Rooney will be back in action at London Anniversary Games IAAF Diamond League meeting this Saturday at the London Olympic stadium.
